Travail in the Sunset
Here we see the Moshulu in rough seas near the tip of South America, her handsome proportions clearly evident and her rigging forming a screen against the setting sun.
I find it hard not to see the ship as a metaphor for all our journeya... a trite, but inescapable observation.
I am particularly indebted to J. Ferrell Colton's book, WINDJAMMERS SIGNIFICANT for the deck plans and for the many photographs that I used as a reference for the computer model that I constructed for this painting.
