Crossroads of Time and Space
Crossroads of Time

Again, another reference to Thomas Cole's painting, "Youth"...

A young woman surveys a landscape of mountains and lakes encased in a cathedral. Time is slipping away.

It would be nice to say that I understood what I was painting, but these objects appear by themselves on my canvas without any conscious intent.

I realize the recurring themes of interior and exterior ambiguity and a young woman starting out in a landscape appear over and over again in my work.

Perhaps part of the origin of these series was that I once attended a mass at St. Peter's Cathedral and the vertiginous feeling the immense space induced in me was the begininng of a long series of paintings in this vein.
